Columbus Metropolitan Club - 7-8-2020 - Racism - Where Do We Go From Here? How Media Perpetuates Bias

One form of media bias or perceived media bias occurs when journalists, news producers and mass media outlets select events to cover and how they are reported. It's a subjective judgement about if and when bias occurs, but countless studies reveal examples, such as the word 'black' being used as many as three times more frequently in news stories than the word 'white', which can condition viewers to associate Black people with negative news and crime. Our panelists will examine today's media bias, intentional or inadvertent, how it is perpetuated and by whom. How will the current climate and the Black LIves Matter movement impact media bias and sterotyping?

Featuring Kyle Strickland, Senior Legal Analyst, OSU Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race & Ethnicity, Angela Pace, Director of Community Affairs , WBNS 10TV and Jerry Revish, Retired Co-Anchor WBNS 10TV.
