Summer Fridays is a free lunch-time outdoor performing arts series presented on the West Plaza (High Street) of the historic Statehouse. Summer Fridays at the Statehouse will provide an opportunity for the public and downtown community to gather on Capitol Square to experience some of Columbus' diverse arts groups and to visit the beautiful Capitol building.

Summer Fridays at the Statehouse will take place each Friday between May 29 and September 4, 2009. There will be no performance on Friday, July 3 due to the holiday fireworks and festivities. The program will run between noon and 1 p.m. The series is designed to allow the downtown community and visitors the opportunity to enjoy a free event while eating their lunch on the Statehouse steps and lawn.

"Free community performances continue to play an important role in the Ohio Statehouse's commitment to education and community outreach," said Gregg Dodd, Statehouse Deputy Director for Communications, Marketing and Events. "Due to the current economy, it is more important than ever to work with our local performing arts groups to offer this free programming."

Visitors are encouraged to bring their lunch or purchase their lunch at the Capitol Cafe located on the ground floor of the Statehouse. The Capitol Cafe, operated by Catering by Design, will feature reasonably priced "grab and go" lunch specials each Friday.

Performances will be cancelled in the event of inclement weather.

Up to the minute performance information about Summer Fridays at the Statehouse will be posted on the front page of the Ohio Statehouse Web site at www.ohiostatehouse.org. Summer Fridays at the Statehouse audience members are encouraged to visit the Statehouse Web site each morning of the scheduled performances to retrieve last minute performance information.
