Columbus, OH -- Lieutenant Governor Lee Fisher, Chair of the Ohio Third Frontier Commission, today announced that the Commission recommended a $250,000 Targeted Industry Attraction grant to ViewRay Inc., located in Oakwood Village (Cuyahoga County). The awards are contingent upon State Controlling Board approval.
"ViewRay's technology is potentially life-saving, and exactly the type of innovative research and development we are proud to support," said Fisher, who also serves as Director of the Ohio Department of Development. "Fueling important work in bioscences, advanced polymers, and fuel cells is what makes Ohio a leader in these fields."
The Targeted Industry Attraction Grant Program provides funding assistance to attract high-technology companies to Ohio, and focuses on companies creating new, cutting-edge technology in the targeted industry sectors of advanced polymers, biosciences, and fuel cells.
ViewRay, Inc. was recommended for a $250,000 Targeted Industry Attraction Grant for the acquisition of research and development equipment to assemble and test its biomedical technology. ViewRay plans to lease an existing 45,000 square-foot facility in the Broad Oak Business Park to use as the company's new world headquarters and also to assemble and test the Renaissance 1000 system, ViewRay's Image Guided Radiation Therapy technology. The technology allows a direct radiation hit to cancer cells while reducing the possibility of damage to healthy tissue. ViewRay will partner with Northeast Ohio organizations including The Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland's University Hospitals, and Philips Medical Systems. The project is anticipated to create 93 full-time jobs.
