State lawmakers got back to work this week with voting sessions in both the House and Senate. One of the issues legislators in both chambers took up was the upcoming joint session where Gov. John Kasich will deliver his second State of the State speech. Senate Democrats have a new leader - they've selected Sen. Eric Kearney of Cincinnati, the longest-serving Democrat now in the Ohio Senate, to replace Minority Leader Capri Cafaro of Hubbard.
The leaders of both parties in the Ohio House are talking about their priorities for this year. Speaker Bill Batchelder (R-Medina) and Minority Leader Armond Budish (D- Beachwood) run down the agendas for their caucus members.
