Third parties in American politics have been around since the early 1800's. While they seldom have an influence in an election they even more rarely are able to win one. However, the self described "Democratic Socialist" Bernie Sanders has placed a bid for president and has fostered a considerable following. Coming up, we look into the history of third parties and the strategies their candidates use as they vie for the presidency.
