Gov. John Kasich signs Amended House Bill No. 497, legislation that appropriates approximately $2.4 billion in capital funds for the FY 2015-16 biennium.
Gov. Kasich signs the public construction budget at Reeb Elementary School in Columbus. Joining the governor are Columbus Mayor Michael B. Coleman, Christina Grote, Rebecca Asmo of the Boys & Girls Club of Columbus, Sen. Scott Oelslager, President of the Senate Keith Faber, Rep. Ron Amstutz and Rep. Mike Stinziano.
The biennial capital budget provides appropriations for the repair, reconstruction and construction of capital assets of state agencies, colleges, universities and school districts. In some years, funds may also be allocated for community projects of local or regional interest. Funding for most capital projects is supported by long-term debt issued by the state or, in some cases, by various cash funds.
