Naturally Ohio

Description
Carved out of blackhand sandstone deep in a gorge sits the Rock House at Hocking Hills. The park holds rich history and a wide variety of flora and fauna. At 200 feet long, Rock House is the longest natural tunnel in the state.

Common folklore credits the location as a shelter for robbers, bootleggers and horse thieves, but its story began long before the 1800s. Native Americans used this location and their remnants can still be seen today.

Join ODNR Naturalist Pat Quackenbush as he points out some of the natural history and foliage unique to this region of the state.

Hocking Hills provides a variety of recreational opportunities in a splendid natural setting. The 2,356-acre park has towering cliffs, waterfalls and deep hemlock-shaded gorges to serve hikers and naturalists alike.
