In 1961, The American Mothers Committee distinguished former Rep. Opal J. Mundy of Lucas County as a nominee for the State Mother of Ohio.

American Mothers, Inc. was formed during the Reconstruction Era of the United States to emphasize the family's role in the well-being of all citizens. The non-profit organization still awards this merit today.
