Researchers at Northeastern University recently found that when "benevolent sexists" really turn on the charm, they're actually doing a lot of harm. They contend benevolent sexism may be even more insidious than outright hostile sexism because it lulls women into accepting the status quo. Plenty of door holders say it's all a bunch of bunk. And even some feminists fear complaining about gentlemanly acts could sidetrack the feminist message. We'll address that on this edition of the Sound of Ideas and we'll talk about a new effort in Ohio to teach civility to our middle-schoolers.
