When it was first released on November 18, 1983, studio execs expected "A Christmas Story" to flop. Its run was so short, the film wasn't even in theaters on Christmas. These days the classic saga of Ralphie and his Red Ryder BB gun is a holiday staple. Filmed partly around town, it's become a part of the fabric of Cleveland, and 30 years later Ralphie is still pining for that BB Gun.
