All Sides with Ann Fisher - 2-22-2023 A - High rates of depression among teen girls

Play

A 2021 snapshot by the Centers for Disease Control reveals that nearly 6 in 10 teenage girls in the U.S. struggled with depression, with even higher rates among LGBTQIA+ youth.

And nearly 15% of U.S. girls reported being sexually assaulted.

The two findings are related.

Although some reports of depression are attributed to pandemic-related isolation, their stories of sexual violence paint a dire image of what it means to be a girl in this day and age.

We look at the issues behind the challenges and strategies for saving them.
