Applause - Doug Sanderson, Painter

During the 1950's, Cleveland's jazz-scene was thriving. And shutter-bug Frank Kuchirchik, a huge fan of the genre, began shooting at one of his favorite haunts, Lindsay's Sky Bar - a popular east side nightclub. Ideastream's Dan Polleta sits down with Frank about his memories of one of the hotspots of Cleveland.

In his 16 years as a photographer for the Plain Dealer Mike Levy framed the visuals for all sorts of news stories. About six years ago, Mike went off to shoot a story which seemed like a routine assignment at a local house of worship but it turned out to be the first step on a spiritual journey. That journey is now chronicled in Mike's book of photo essays titled "Revelations: Photographs of Cleveland's African-American Churches."

A passing glance at the paintings of Doug Sanderson might remind you 1960's OP - ART, but his work is far from an illusion. Inside some of his latest works, Arcane Images, there's a much deeper meaning inside those geometric shapes.
