Susan Goldberg was named editor of The Plain Dealer in May of 2007. Prior to that she was the executive editor of the San Jose Mercury News from 2003-2007, after working as managing editor at the paper for four years. From 1989-1999, Goldberg worked at USA Today, serving as a deputy managing editor of the News, Life and Enterprise sections. Previously she worked as a reporter and editor at the Detroit Free Press. She began her career as a reporter at the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.
A Michigan native, Goldberg has a bachelor's degree in journalism from Michigan State University. She was a member of the San Jose Rotary Club and served on the city's Sunshine Reform Task Force, charged with creating a law to give citizens better access to meetings and records. She is co-chair of the Medill School of Journalism's Board of Visitors at Northwestern University. Goldberg is on the board of the American Society of Newspaper Editors.
