Columbus Metropolitan Club - 7-28-2021 - Canine Comfort - Buckeye Paws' Curative Role

Right when they needed it most, we were told to keep "socially distant" from the front-line responders who were facing their most stressful days caring for those with COVID-19. But, at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, a new type of "co-worker" - of a four-legged variety- was stepping in to provide care, comfort, and companionship. Join us to hear how the innovative Buckeye Paws program is a bright light for nursing staff and patients, and how research shows that programs with therapy animals improve the mental health and resiliency of critical care staff and other people in stressful environments¿. including the football team!

Shiloh, a therapy dog ambassador from Buckeye Paws, and some members of his team will visit with attendees as well.

Featuring Rustin Moore, DMV, Ph.D., Diplomate ACVS, Dean, College of Veterinary Medicine, Ruth Stanton Chair in Veterinary Medicine, The Ohio State University; Nechelle Marlowe, RN, BSN, Nurse Manager, OSU Wexner Medical Center; and Bernadette Melnyk, Ph.D., APRN-CNP, FAANP, FNAP, FAAN, Vice President for Health Promotion, University Chief Wellness Officer, Professor and Dean of the College of Nursing at The Ohio State University and professor of pediatrics and psychiatry at Ohio State's College of Medicine with host Gail Hogan, journalist.
