Columbus Metropolitan Club - Franklin Park Conservatory: The Future's Blooming

Paul Redman, Executive Director, Franklin Park Conservatory
with remarks from
Cathy Lyttle, Chair, Franklin Park Conservatory

Change is in the air at Franklin Park.
Since 1997, Executive Director Paul Redman has diligently blended his knowledge as a horticulturalist with his creative and savvy management style to cultivate a rich and growing environment at Franklin Park Conservatory bringing meaning to the slogan: "where we nurture plants and people."

A legacy of Redman's years at the Conservatory will be when Franklin Park Conservatory presented Chihuly at the Conservatory in 2003 and 2004, a blockbuster exhibition of Dale Chihuly's magnificent glass artworks. On October 29, 2004, the Friends of the Conservatory, a private, nonprofit group that supports the Conservatory's programming purchased nearly the entire exhibition of artworks, making the Conservatory the only public botanical garden in the world to permanently house a signature Dale Chihuly collection.

Redman's June 2 departure elicits celebration and sadness --- celebration for his blossoming career and sadness for the loss to the conservatory and to the community.

But Redman leaves the park figuratively and literally in full bloom. With the CMC audience May 31 he shares his dreams and the updated master plans to assure Franklin Park's continued success.
