Columbus Metropolitan Club - Skybus: Three Months & Flying, What's Next

With much fanfare and publicity, Skybus took its maiden flight from Columbus, Ohio, USA, May 22, 2007. Skybus Airlines is a privately held, ultra low-cost carrier modeled after the European airline Ryanair and the early years of Southwest Airlines. It plans to be the cheapest airline in the country, with fares up to 25% cheaper than Southwest. Its business model includes advertising on the interior and exterior of its aircraft as well as selling merchandise onboard to increase revenue.

According to local news channel WBNS, over 200,000 airline tickets had been sold for Skybus as of May 21, the day before the beginning of flight service. Creating local buzz with $10 seats, no phone number, no frills, attractive cities, secondary airports, limited flights, no transfers; this is clearly not your traditional airline.

After three months in the air, adding three new cities, how is Skybus doing?
