Columbus Metropolitan Club - The Marriage Amendment: Two Years Later

Lynne Bowman, Executive Director, Equality Ohio
Camilla Taylor, Staff Attorney, Lambda Legal
Rev. Dr. Mike Castle, Pastor, Cross Creek Community Church(Dayton)

On December 2, 2004, Ohio passed Issue One, or The Marriage Amendment - denying gay and lesbian people the right to marry or to receive benefits associated with marriage.

Two years later, what has this meant for Ohio's GLBT community? Rev. Dr. Mike Castle, a gay man raising an adopted son and fostering a teenager, will examine the social implications of living in Ohio as a gay person. Lambda Legal Staff Attorney Camilla Taylor discusses the legal implications the amendment two years after its passage. Lynne Bowman, Executive Director of Equality Ohio - formed in response to the passage of Issue One, will share the organization's work to change hearts and minds regarding these issues.

Ohio has been dubbed one of the states in the nation that is least friendly to gay and lesbian people. Is this perception based in facts and how does it effect the state's ability to compete for industry, academic and other needed professionals? Does this attitude fuel the state's already raging brain drain?
