Over the past couple decades, a blighted urban area a stone's throw north of downtown has been reborn into a thriving entertainment and artist district we all know now as the Short North. As part of that transformation, the Short North Neighborhood Foundation has enriched the Short North and the experiences of its residents and visitors since 2000.

Its members promote cooperation among the neighborhood associations and businesses that contribute to the residential, commercial and recreational vitality of the area. The SNNF enlivens the area by highlighting its historical, architectural, artistic and natural beauty.

In collaboration with Franklin Park Conservatory and the Columbus Museum of Art, the foundation has created a number of streetscapes that celebrate the rich heritage and artistry of the area. "Historical Journeys" will honor the people and events that have established Columbus' rich artistic culture. Pocket parks have been constructed in Millay, Poplar and Greenwood, and further beautification efforts will be implemented along High Street and in areas such as West Lincoln Park and Buttles Avenue.

In our CMC discussion, CEO and President of Wood Companies Sandy Wood, will review the ongoing evolution of the Short North and the important lessons of collaboration between non-profits and businesses in creating economically and socially sustainable communities. Sharon O'Brien, owner of Grandview Mercantile, will reflect on her experiences as a small business owner in the Short North and Sherrie Hawk will discuss the intricacies of running a successful art gallery. Mary Steussey of National City Bank will moderate the discussion.
