Republican Ohio Gov.-elect John Kasich predicted President Barack Obama's tax cut agreement would have a "positive impact" on Americans and would help get the embattled Democratic leader re-elected in 2012.

Ohio Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown told CNN the deal is a "sellout of the middle class" and that the president should have pushed for a better deal. Ohio Republican Sen. George Voinovich has said he would vote against it because it would raise the national deficit.

The Obama administration announced Thursday that it was taking back $400 million earmarked for Ohio because Republican Gov.-elect John Kasich killed a project that would have created passenger train service linking Cincinnati, Columbus and Cleveland, Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said.
