1. President Obama's Visit to Ohio

Obama's ninth trip to Ohio since becoming president was presaged yesterday by a new Gallup Poll showing that 50 percent of Americans say they disapprove of the way he is handling his job, his lowest Gallup rating yet. Still, Obama's visit to the state is viewed by Democratic officials as helpful toward energizing the base to vote in an election year that otherwise puts Democrats on the wrong end of an enthusiasm gap with Republicans.

2. John Kasich's plan to privatize the Ohio Department of Development

Republican gubernatorial candidate John Kasich wants to abolish a state agency devoted to job creation and replace it with a privatized, corporate board that he would appoint and chair. Kasich's announcement of his "JobsOhio" plan immediately raised questions about whether privatizing a governmental duty and giving it tax dollars is legal or constitutional.

4. Ted Strickland's difficult death penalty decision

The Columbus Dispatch - A panel recommended that Gov. Ted Strickland not spare the life of a man convicted of murdering three people in Bucyrus in 1994 in a case that has drawn national attention. Strickland has discretion on whether to follow the Parole Board's recommendation or ignore it. The governor has publicly called Keith's case "troubling.
