Columbus on the Record - State Superintendent Resignation

1. The New Budget

Local governments in Ohio would face deep cuts to their funding and five state prisons would be sold under a sweeping two-year budget plan that Gov. John Kasich unveiled Tuesday as the state faces of an estimated $8.6 billion budget shortfall.

It was not immediately clear exactly how Kasich's budget team filled the shortfall that has loomed for months and was a central theme of his 2010 race against then-Gov. Ted Strickland.

2. State Superintendent Resignation

Empowered by a new presence on the state school board, backers of Gov. John Kasich have forced out Ohio's state superintendent of education. A tearful Deborah Delisle resigned yesterday.

"Last Friday, it was made known to me by two members of the governor's staff that my tenure was limited," Delisle said during the board's monthly meeting in Columbus. "They said they have the votes to replace me."

3. Kasich Approval Rating Sits at 40%

The latest Ohio Poll finds more Ohioans disapprove than approve of Governor John Kasich's performance as governor. The latest Poll also asked Ohioans their opinions on Ohio's budget situation.

These findings are based on the latest Ohio Poll, conducted by the Institute for Policy Research at the University of Cincinnati between March 1 and March 9, 2011.
