Feagler and Friends - Fracking Defended and What's Next for Katie Spotz?

Guest 1: Thomas E. Stewart, executive vice president, Ohio Oil & Gas Association

A relatively new drilling method, hydraulic fracturing, or 'fracking,' has made it possible to extract large stores of natural gas from deep shale deposits in Ohio and other states. By 2015, the Department of Natural Resources estimates more than 2000 fracked wells will be producing gas in Ohio. This new gas boom brings the promise of thousands of new jobs in drilling and the industries that supply equipment and materials for drilling. It's also expected to be an abundant source of revenue for state and local governments. However, environmentalists say fracking comes with enormous risks. They say the drilling can contaminate ground water, pollute the air, even cause earthquakes.

Guest 2: Katie Spotz, the adventurer from Mentor

In 2010 she rowed a boat across the Atlantic Ocean from Dakar, Senegal to Georgetown, Guyana, a distance of nearly 3,000 miles. Then 22, she was the youngest person and the first American to across the Atlantic under her own power. Spotz was raising money for safe drinking water projects in Africa, a cause she still supports. She's also the first person to swim the entire length of the Allegheny River, has ridden a hand-powered bicycle across the United States and run an ultra-marathon. She'll talk with Mr. Feagler about what she's been up to since the ocean journey and what she's planning next.
