Ohio Ballot Board - Proposed Constitutional Amendments Regarding Redistricting Reform and Marriage Equality

Play

As required by Ohio law, the Ballot Board met to determine whether two proposed constitutional amendments, one regarding redistricting reform and the other regarding marriage equality, each consist of more than one amendment. The Ballot Board has 10 days from the date the certification is received from the attorney general to complete this task.

The Redistricting Reform Amendment proposes that a non-partisan citizen commission be used for redrawing state legislative and congressional districts. The Marriage Equality Amendment proposes to redefine marriage as "a union of two consenting adults, regardless of gender."

Secretary of State Jon Husted serves as chair of the Ballot Board and oversees the board's proceedings. Other members of the Ballot Board include: Fred Strahorn, Vice Chair; State Senator Keith Faber; Mark Griffin; and William N. Morgan. Ballot Board meetings are open to the public.
