Understanding that the quality of our representative democracy is based upon the quality of citizen participation, the Ohio Center for the Advancement of Women in Public Service, based at Cleveland State University, has created this program to inspire more Ohioans to run for public office. Focusing on the careers of former and current members of the Ohio General Assembly, the program documents the opportunities and challenges of becoming a public servant through the election process.

When term limits were enacted in Ohio in 1992, a two-term restriction was imposed on the length of service for members of the Ohio General Assembly. An unintended consequence has been the reduction of the number of women and minority candidates winning these offices, thereby reducing pluralistic representation at the Statehouse. "You Should Run for Office" was created to encourage more women and members of minority groups to participate in the election process thereby increasing their authority and knowledge in the legislative system.

This DVD also comes with a CD companion curriculum guide for educators.
