Natural gas production in areas of Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania this past year has surpassed that of Texas. The gas extracted is being used in plastics manufacturing to produce raw materials. The area has been named the "Shale Crescent" and is in the process of evolving from the rust belt into the plastic belt.
