All Sides with Ann Fisher - 5-17-2023 A - OSU receives license to grow psychedelic mushrooms

Play

The Ohio State University has received the first-ever DEA license to grow psychedelic mushrooms for research.

Research on so-called magic mushrooms isn't new, but it's been limited to pill forms of the fungi and has largely ignored counter compounds besides psilocybin.

The benefits already have been shown to include therapies for serious mental health conditions such as depression, addiction and anxiety and have been applied to war veterans who struggle with post traumatic stress disorder.

We'll delve into therapeutic psychedelics, how they work, look at their safety and discuss user experiences.

Guests:

Adam Levin, psychiatry resident at the Center for Psychedelic Drug Research and Education at The Ohio State University
Ashley Walsh, CEO of Inner State, Inc.
Angela Allbee, Manager of Oregon Psilocybin Services Section at Oregon Health Authority
Dylan Peters, Research Coordinator at Veterans Exploring Treatment Solutions
