Newsdepth - New Cuban President

Tuesday night Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama debated against each other in Cleveland, one week before the March fourth primary. They talked about Iraq, trade, and healthcare. Ohio is rich with delegates, so both candidates are trying hard for more support. But like any good contenders - they shook hands when it was over.

About 250 miles south of Florida, Cuba has elected a new president for the first time in over fifty years. Raul Castro became the interim president of Cuba when his brother Fidel became ill in 2006. Fidel Castro announced he would not seek re-election due to his poor health last week - and the power remains with the Castro family. Raul, who is 76, was elected president of the State Council by Cuba's National Assembly on Sunday in Havana.

In another communist country, North Korea, barriers were broken this week as music took center stage. The New York Philharmonic Orchestra has made history in North Korea.
With its concert in Pyongyang Tuesday night, it became the first U.S. orchestra to ever perform in this country where even music is tightly controlled. North Korean leader Kim Jong Il was not in attendance, but the audience gave a standing ovation. Kyung Lah tells us about the importance of this visit for violinist Michelle Kim. Kim was born in South Korea. Her parents were born in the north and fled to the south during the Korean War.

In one of the most remote areas of the world, seeds are being stored in case of a world emergency. The Doomsday Vault - something that could safeguard human existence - is a 100-meter tunnel that connects a series of vaults. Inside those vaults - about four and a half million seeds! The idea is that if mankind is ever threatened - due to global disaster or another catastrophe, our main resource for survival, food, would be safe. The vault is located on an arctic archipelago belonging to Norway, about 620 miles from the north pole.

Did you get a chance to see the lunar eclipse last week? Here in the Cleveland area, it was visible right around bedtime, between eight and ten o'clock. It was a total eclipse of the moon, visible not only in Ohio, but in most of North America, South America, western Europe and northwest Africa. What is a lunar eclipse? It's when the moon passes through the earth's shadow. A total eclipse only happens during a full moon. For those of us with clear skies and a good view, the eclipse appeared as a deep red shadow.

Police officers in Bangkok are appealing to the public for help... against high fuel prices.
When driving around the cramped streets became too costly, police looked for a cheaper alternative. Andrew Stevens shows us how Bangkok's officers are clamping down on climate change with the help of the community. The police are collecting used fuel from ceremonial lamps as well as used cooking oil from restaurants such as Kentucky Fried Chicken.
