In 2007 the city of Bowling Green entered into a contract with American Municipal Power (AMP), a wholesale power supplier that is part owner of a coal-fired power plant in Southern Illinois known as Prairie State Energy Campus (PSEC) to get 50% of its electricity from PSEC. The goal was to provide long term electric price stability in a volatile energy market. The group Citizens for a Livable Future believes this may not be the best plan.
