The Marion County Courthouse was designed by architecht David W. Gibbs, and its cornerstone was laid on Independence Day in 1884. The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973, and the interior was remodeled two years later. The facade of the building contains several portholes with relief sculptures depicting various representatives of humankind. Notice the inclusion of several human races, and depictions of the young, old, and in between.
