Twitter has eliminated over 70 million automated or fake accounts from its platform. Politicians, celebrities, and other personalities lost anywhere from a few thousand to millions of followers following the purge.
The crack down is an example of the social media giant trying to restore trust in its platform. These fraudulent accounts have been the target of controversy surrounding the spread of fake news and misinformation online.
