Description
Columbus city school teachers have gone on strike after talks fell apart at the bargaining table late last week.

The Columbus Education Association, the teachers' union, met for three hours on Sunday to decide to go on strike for the first time since 1975.

The strike comes two days before students are set to start the new school year on Wednesday. If teachers remain on strike, the district will shift to remote learning with substitute teachers.

The district's final offer fell far short of a requested 8% per year pay hike. The district did not address requests for full time art music and physical education teachers.

We'll discuss the strike and more on our Weekly Reporter Roundtable show.

Guests:

Matthew Rand, reporter for WOSU 89.7 NPR News
Jeremy Pelzer, politics reporter for cleveland.com
Karen Kasler, bureau chief for the Ohio Public Radio Statehouse News Bureau
Titus Wu, state government reporter, USA Today Network Ohio bureau
