Description
View of the Columbus limestone quarry, used in construction of the Statehouse Atrium. Circa winter 1991. The three stacks visible in the background are likely from the Trash Burning Power Plant.

"Today, the quarry historically known as the 'State Quarry' is located north of Route 40 (West Broad St.), in west Columbus, in an area known as Marble Cliffs. A nearby quarry operated by the American Aggregates Company may still produce Columbus Limestone similar to that from the original State Quarry..." -Stout, Wilber, Geological Survey of Ohio. Fourth Series, Bulletin 42, 1941, p. 42.
