Remarkable Ohio

Description
The Cuyahoga County Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument honors the men and women who performed military and patriotic duties during the Civil War. Captain Levi Tucker Scofield, a Cleveland architect and sculptor, designed the structure in the heart of Cleveland at Public Square. The monument consists of a granite column 125 feet high, overlooking four bronze statuary groups depicting the military, which surround the memorial room. Inscribed on marble tablets within the room are the names of the approximately 9,000 soldiers and sailors from Cuyahoga County.
