Paul Gillmor (R) was elected into the Ohio Senate in 1967, representing the 2nd district. He held top leadership positions in his party from 1981-1988: President of the Senate 1981-1982, 1985-1988; Senate Minority Leader 1978-1980, 1983-1984. Gillmor won a 1988 election in the U.S. House of Representatives, defeating incumbent Del Latta by a narrow margin. He was re-elected to Ohio's 5th District a total of 9 times. Gillmor died suddenly on Sept. 5, 2007, during his 10th term in office. He was survived by Sen. Karen Gillmor and their 5 children.
