The Sound of Ideas

Description
Over the weekend residents of Toledo were told not to use their tap water after treatment plant readings showed microcystin levels above the standard for consumption. The toxic peptides were traced back to algal blooms in Lake Erie. Researchers have long been studying what causes algal blooms not just in Lake Erie but all over the world - and how best to resolve the recurring issue.

Guests:

Isabel C. Escobar, Professor of Chemical and Environmental Engineering and Interim Assistant Dean of Research Development and Outreach at The University of Toledo

Jeffrey M. Reutter, Ph.D., Director of the Ohio Sea Grant College Program and Stone Laboratory at the Center for Lake Erie Area Research at The Ohio State University

Alex Margevicius, Interim Commissioner of the Cleveland Division of Water

Karen Schaefer, Independent Producer

Frank Szollosi, Great Lakes Regional Outreach Coordinator for the National Wildlife Federation
