Description
Kids are heading back to school this week. But some students will carry more than books to school: They'll bring hunger, illness, maybe the baggage that comes with living in neighborhoods where poverty and crime persist. How do you teach children when life gets in the way of learning? One approach is the wraparound school. We'll tell you what that is and why the concept is expanding in districts like Cleveland's.

Guests:

Bill Kitson, president & CEO, United Way of Greater Cleveland

Jane Quinn, Vice President and Director of National Center for Community Schools

Lisa Baskin, project manager for Community Wraparound Strategy, CMSD

Derrick Fulton, executive director, University Settlement

Annemarie Grassi, PhD, executive director, Open Doors Academy

Eve Bolton, president, Cincinnati Board of Education
